Overview:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Range Officer is responsible for the safe and enjoyable operation of the Sportsman’s Park Trapshooting Range, including, but not limited to, facility, grounds and staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Direct and evaluate all Trapshooting Range volunteers toward a safe and efficient operation of the facility.
  2. Interpret the policy of the Trapshooting Range operation to the volunteer staff and public and assume responsibility for compliance with local, state and federal laws, and facility rules, regulations and Best Management Practices.
  3. Lock and Unlock facility according to range schedule.
  4. Manage admissions cash register and all other components of program registration.
  5. Finalize daily deposit of admissions taken.
  6. Complete all necessary program documentation for daily operation.
  7. Manage all supplies needed for efficient and effective Trapshooting Range operations in accordance with the rules and policies of the Park District.
  8. Maintain logs of supplies in inventory and consumed, and coordinate the purchase of additional equipment and supplies with supervisor.
  9. Evaluate and make recommendations for the improvement of the facility and program.
  10. Demonstrates and supports park district customer service standards.
  11. Follows district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances. Maintain a proactive approach to safety and risk management. Report all accidents and incidents in a timely manner. Conduct timely accident investigations, complete accurate and timely accident and incident reports.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Orients new range volunteers to facilities and range operation.
  • Trains range volunteers in job-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Prepares and submits all incident, accident and special reports as needed.
  • Recommends changes to policies, regulations and procedures where appropriate.
  • Responds to customer complaints and inquiries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the use and operation of trapshooting equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of the methods and practices used in trapshooting range operations.
  • Knowledge of NRA Range Safety rules and Naperville Park District site-specific rules, Best Management Practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws concerning the sale of ammunition, including the Illinois Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.
  • Excellent communication skills - professional ability to attend to the needs of our customers. Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Must complete training with an NRA–certified Range Officer annually. Training will incorporate NRA Range Safety rules with Naperville Park District site-specific rules and procedures.
  • Must possess a current F.O.I.D. card.

Special Considerations:

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Requires some lifting of heavy objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, noise and insect bites.
  • Physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site.
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedule.
