Overview:

The Naperville Park District is hiring Childcare Lead Attendants. The Childcare Lead Attendant is responsible for supervising children in The Fort Childcare and Indoor Playground. The Childcare Lead Attendant will also be the main point of contact for staff and patrons when the Childcare Coordinator is either not on site or not available.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide a safe and welcoming environment by supervising and interacting with children ages 12 weeks to 11 years.
  2. Communicate concerns and updates to parents in a tactful and discrete manner.
  3. Prepare age appropriate activities and equipment for children.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of The Fort Childcare area and Indoor Playground.
  5. Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to child information sheet, ratios.
  6. Model exceptional customer service; model and train on customer service standards.
  7. Respond quickly to customer complaints or inquiries and notify Childcare Coordinator.
  8. Notify Childcare Coordinator of situations regarding the operation of the program such as broken equipment, equipment shortages, facility damages, disciplinary concerns and participant concerns.
  9. Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Report needed items to Childcare Coordinator.
  10. Respond appropriately to emergencies inside the facility and surrounding area.
  11. Maintain a safe, clean and friendly environment for members and guests.
  12. Maintain a proactive approach to safety and risk management. Participate in the creation, implementation and evaluation of sound risk management policies and procedures.
  13. Follow and model compliance with all District, State, Federal and departmental safety and risk management, personnel, administrative policies and procedures, ordinances and regulations.
  14. Report any hazardous situations. Record and keep incident/accident reports with a copy to the Childcare Coordinator or Facility Manager.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Childcare Coordinator with member retention and special events.
  • Assist Childcare Coordinator with finding substitutes when needed.
  • Available to substitute shifts as needed.
  • Assist Coordinator with training of staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (i.e., professional ability to attend to customer needs).
  • Demonstrate initiative and professionalism.
  • Maintain and implement child/staff ratios.
  • Ability to communicate with and instruct adults and children.
  • Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in childcare.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age and older.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, Infant CPR, AED and First Aid certification within three (3) months of date of hire.

Special Considerations:

  • Ability to lift weight (45 lbs).
  • Subject to modified/flexible work schedule.
